Spotlight: Horror Tattoos By Clod The Ripper
Apparently, Clod The Ripper and I have got the same uncle Jack, which make me his ‘sister in crime’ as he called me when seeing my name … That, plus shared tastes for occult, serial killers and black and grey tattoos, it was pretty obvious that we needed to have a chat.
Serial inker for fourteen years, and also a metal musician, Claudio De Rosa (his real name) is distinguishing himself in the realistic and horrific field of black and grey tattoo. If his colleague in the tattoo shop and show Milano City Ink (the Italian equivalent of Miami Ink) Antonio Macko Todisco often prefers angels, Claudio is definitely on the demons side, favoring evil creatures, femmes fatales and macabre themes.
His portfolio is not for the squeamish ! So, if you are brave enough check Milano City Ink website and his Facebook Page.
The Italian tattoo artist was at Paris Tattoo Convention, the occasion for killing time with an interview for Tattoodo …
Obviously, I have to ask you why did you choose to be named Clod the Ripper ?! Are you a fan of Criminal History, Victorian Era ?
I'm super fascinated by psychopaths and serial-killers, I had experiences with some killers here in Italy, they were members of one of my old bands, now in jail for the rest of their lives. So I simply decided to choose the name of the first serial-killer in the modern age : Jack the Ripper! I also like a lot the Victorian era, the costumes and the buildings.
Your tattoos are often very dark, what are your influences in art, movies, literature, music, tattoos ..? I literally devour tons of horror movies, from the most famous till the thrash B-movies! My favorite are the ones from the '80! I read a lot of book about killers and criminals too, but my main influence is always into the death metal scene!
Your portfolio is mainly black and grey, why this choice ?
I'm like a dog: I only see in black and white !
Recent from Tattoo Artists
You have appeared in TV show Milano City Tattoo along Macko. What do you think TV can bring to tattoo art ?
TV is still the most popular way of communicate in the world, so the best thing is that people can see with their eyes good quality tattoos done by professional artists in a professional shop; bad thing is that a lot of young guys decide to be a tattooer just because it is 'cool' ....
What are your projects in the future ? Travel, travel, travel ! Meet and get tattooed by my idols and of course improve my technique and find a solid and personal style in the tattoo community.
Grazie mille !
