Hand Tattoos: Fierce Or Fail?
Whenever I ask someone: "Would you ever consider getting a tattoo on your hand?", I always get a range of responses. (Cover: Rob Mulligan)
Some said they would never consider it, others maybe, a few were convinced they would get one someday. I always said I would never ever get one, but I'm beginning to reconsider. While most people think getting your hand tattooed is "not done", I recently find myself looking on the World Wide Web in search of something that would fit me. Obviously, most of my family don't really approve because of the remaining stigma that lays on it. On the other hand, my friends think it would suit me perfectly.
So the question remains: hand tattoos, fierce or fail?
Work vs personal life There's something to be said in favor of getting your hand inked. It's one of the most visible places you can get tattooed, but that being said, it's also the perfect place to put something you're truly passionate about. You could say you're putting your hart on your sleeve, out there for the world to see, and admire or frown upon. Of course, some people will form an opinion about you solely based on that piece of tattooed skin. Maybe your employer will not care for it; maybe you won't get hired because of it. But hey, you can always put on some concealer during the day and no one will be the wiser ;-)
Is it a boy or a girl thing? As a girl, someone will always try to convince you not to get a tattoo because it's simply "not for girls". To them I say: wake up, it's the 21st century! Some would also say hand tattoos are just for men, although some of the designs I saw are really feminine and just plain beautiful. Being a girl myself, I hate the distinction between men and women when it comes to tattoos. In my humble opinion, it's all about the design and how it suits you.

So if you ask me, I fully support hand tattoos and I'm going to get one myself. Maybe not this year, maybe not next year, but someday I will have some ink on my hand. And more importantly, I will wear it with pride, I will wear it FIERCE!
