Spotlight: Dotwork Master Kenji Alucky

Dotwork is the heir of tribalism in tattoo art, and Kenji Alucky its undisputed master in the planet.

This Japanese tattoo artist from Sappora, on the Hokkaido island, is travelling the world with his itinerant studio Black Ink Power, often stopping by NY at New York Adorned. Black ink power indeed, as it is the only ink Kenji Alucky is using for his tattoos. Fascinated by ethnic tattoos and blackwork, the master wanted to slow the process of tattooing, coming back to the ritual practice of hand-poking at the age of electric machines. When other artists are narrowing dots to create darker tattoos, Kenji Alucky is spacing them with precision to create very delicate gradations from light grey to obscure black. Inspired by Nature and fractals, his designs are always very poetic and tasteful, adding some psychedelic beauty to the shapes of human body. His tattoos can be very minimalistic, from a simple line, to bigger 3Dimensional pieces. Take a look at the monochromatic masterpieces of Kenji Alucky and tell us if you'd wait for the artist to stop by your country...

These fingers tattoos are beautiful. A pity they will fade quicker than in other body parts.
