Spotlight: From Dots to Lines - Tattoos by Chaim Machlev
Tattoos are changing many lives, from clients to artists. Chaim Machlev discovered tattoo art when deciding to get his first tattoo.
Chaim - "I found the procedure highly spiritual and life changing", the man behind DotsToLines, was a project manager in an IT company of Tel Aviv, his hometown. Enthused about his discovery, Chaïm decided to drop everything to become a tattooist, moving to Berlin to learn the trade. Obsessed by lines he kept projecting into the bodies of people he met, he obviously orientated his work on the linework and dotwork styles. His work is mainly inspired by Nature, both for its mathematical, abstract and spiritual designs and inspirations. As Chaïm wishes to protect the spiritual aspect of the tattoo practice. After living a year in India to include more buddhistic way of life into his own being, he opened a private shop in his city of adoption. "Tattoo is an intimate process and the experience of getting tattooed unleashes a lot of feelings: pain, happiness, love, anger, etc. In order to offer the best conditions for this deep experience, the place where you are going to live it needs to be as intimate as possible." This is also the reason why you will never see Chaim Machlev tattooing in conventions, even if you can stumble upon him as a visitor. His private shop also allows him to give more individual tattoos to his clients, taking the time to draw freehand to fit the designs on their bodies' structures. "Our bodies are not symmetric and adding something that is could be sometimes very tricky. It has to be the right size, right place, right movement, otherwise it won't work."
