The Street-Art Inspired Tattoos of Live2
Giannis Livieratos, known as Live2, is a tattoo artist from Greece and one of the resident artists of famous shop Giahi, in Switzerland
He moved there in order to get « a new beginning ». But back in Greece, Live2 used to be one of the most respected mural artist of the country. « I’ve started graffiti in 1994 when meeting friends from that background. I love painting and this sounded the right thing to do. » Some friends then encouraged him into a new career, which has been already warmly recommended to him by a very close person : « My wife pushed me to try tattooing, and also friends from Greece. I was doing graffiti and graphic design already, so why not trying something new ? I enjoyed this so much that, since 2007, I’m completely focused on my tattoo art. »
Now recognized for his very personal style and his street-art inspired tattoos, Live2 likes to work both with computer and freehand. « If you master computer’s programs, creating can be easier, but the best way to draw will always be by hand, with a piece of paper. This is a better way to figure out how the design will place itself on the skin. » If the artist says that his « day starts with tattoo and end with it », he doesn’t want to jump the gun.« I don’t know what I’m going to do next. Things go better with no plans in your life. I enjoy what I’m doing right now, a mix of graffiti and graphic style, and I want to keep experimentating in this way. I’m trying to give it more freedom to work with body’s shapes in the best way. » You’ve understood it, Live2 is a pro.
But he also wants to stay humble. « Internet is a fantastic tool for an artist, either to show his work or to learn from others’ work. But even if you get fame or not, you need to remember to stay a man and not to think you are a god. »
