Does Having A Tattoo Make You A Better Person?

We have all heard the age old clichés about tattoos; there only for bikers and gang members, you'll regret it when you're older, they won't always look like that, and of course the fan favourite- How are you going to get a job with a tattoo?

Of course anyone with tattoos knows that the above statements are usually made my people who have no tattoos themselves and equally have no real understanding of tattooing as a whole. Yet they still feel in a position where they can pass judgement on how a person expresses themselves. At the same time however such judgement only reinforces the view that people with tattoos are in comparison much more open and understanding people. So then, can having a tattoo make you a better person? Well here's 5 reasons why they can!

1) You Know First Impressions Are Overrated

Anyone with either extensive tattoos or just the one has no doubt had judgement passed on them because of their tattoo at one time or another, whether they are aware of it or not. But as anyone with tattoos knows tattoos are not what define the person, they are an aesthetic extra with little or no impact on the personality. Having a tattoo teaches you to not pass judgement on appearance alone and get to know a person for who they are, body modifications or not!

Yes he's tattooed but that doesn't tell you who he is or what he's like!

2) You Accept Things Don't Always Have To Have A Meaning

So why did you get that then? Oh, what does your tattoo mean? These are the questions you have to live with when you decide to have a tattoo. Though as most tattoo lovers know you can just get a tattoo because you like that particular tattoo or style. Tattoos are art and don't always need a story. Being tattooed makes you aware that some times people have a tattoo simply because they wanted it and you should appreciate it for what it is.

Is she sad?... No, she's probably just tired of being asked what her tattoos mean!!

3) You Understand The Beauty Of Self-Expression

Although tattoos don't always have to have a meaning they are still a form of self-expression, but of course people don't always see it this way, that is unless you have one yourself. After getting a tattoo or a dozen you will find yourself better understanding a persons choice to express themselves in ink or any other way they modify their body. It may not always be the case but when a person has a tattoo they just get other people who express themselves in physical ways such as tattooing, scarification or piercing etc.

The key to life for anyone is being happy with yourself, having a tattoo is fairly similar to this. A tattoo is a personal thing, it is not for anyone else but the individual who wears it, why should it matter if someone else doesn't like it so long as you do? It would not truly be a tattoo if you got it to please someone else, tattoos are meant for personal enjoyment! Anyone with a tattoo will tell you that as long as your tattoo makes you happy then your good. People with tattoos have a common understanding... tattoos shouldn't be aimed to please others!!

Who cares if people don't like your tattoos. Does she look bothered by the prospect?!

5) You Appreciate Anyone Else With Tattoos

People with tattoos will appreciate anyone else with tattoos, they will not pass judgement, they will not question whether you will find work or what your tattoo means to you but in truth will most likely ask where you had it done and the name of the artist. Having a tattoo opens your eyes to the world of tattooing and makes you appreciate other peoples body art!

In short, yes, having a tattoo can make you a better person. It does not necessarily mean you are better than anyone else but rather you are less likely to pass judgement on people, you will understand why people modify their bodies and most importantly you will know it is more pressing than anything to be happy with yourself!! So stay tattooed and stay awesome!!
