The 2015 Pacific Ink & Art Tattoo Expo
The Pacific Ink & Art Expo is acclaimed as one of the best tattoo shows on the planet. Artists of all styles and cultural backgrounds from all over the world travel to Hawaii every year to showcase, share and learn from one another in a venue which promotes Ohana (Family). Our show prides itself on being a culture forward event in sharing Pacific Islander culture which consists not only of the ancient tattooing styles known as Kakau & Tatau, but our music, dance, and Aloha.
Tattoo artists, vendors, collectors, & enthusiasts alike make their way back to the island of Oahu this August, as Pacific Ink and Art Expo ( or Hawaii Tattoo Expo) grows bigger & better in it's fifth year. Each summer, the expo will play home to an impressive roster of celebrity tattoo artists - past conventions have included the lovely Megan Massacre of "NY Ink" & "Americas Worst Tattoos", Tatu Baby of "Ink Master" Ruthless from "LA Ink", Roman Abrego from "Ink Master", Big Gus from "Tattoo Nightmares" - as well as infamous old school pioneers of the craft - Rick Walters, Lyle Tuttle, Gill Monte, Freddy Negrete, Jack Rudy, Shanghai Kate, & Hawaiian legends like Keone Nunes.
I was happy to be invited to the PIAE the past two summers, and am so looking forward to my third. Last week, I reached out to my friend, co-founder Danny Casler, who runs the convention (almost effortlessly I might add) to talk to him a bit about what we should expect for this summer's upcoming events...

What is the Pacific Ink and Art Expo about?
The Pacific Ink and Art Expo aka The Hawaii Tattoo Expo is a cultural Tattoo event which features all forms of art from singing, dancing, music, painting, drawing and of course tattoo. Tattoo artists come from all over the world to share their talent and energy with one another in the beautiful state of Hawaii.
We have a ton of great top-tier artists and cultural artists from around the world coming (this year). They are the best in the business and you can find them all on our website.
Is there something that sets you apart from all the other tattoo shows?
The one thing that sets us apart from the rest of the world is the fact that it's Hawaii. Besides the obvious beauty that Hawaii gives to all of our visitors I would have to say it's the energy in which people come to our show there is never any bad vibes it's just straight up love and aloha. I've been to many tattoo shows all around the world and I feel really grateful to be a part of this event. I also have 3 other amazing partners who I couldn't do this without but at the same time, this show is not possible without the support of the tattoo community
What kind of events take place outside the convention?
We always have meet and greets and after parties which we post on our website as we get closer to the show.
What is your favorite part of the weekend?
My personal favorite part of our show is being able to see all of my old friends doing what they love doing which is creating art and getting paid to do what they love. My ultimate favorite part of our entire show is when it's done, because the very next day is when we do the beach barbecue and everybody gets to really hang out eat food have some drinks go swimming, surfing, snorkeling, and just cut loose and reconnect before they take off for another year.
This show is definitely one for the books, and if you have an opportunity to go, take it. You won't regret it.
With that, I'll leave you with this cute little clip of Megan Massacre, myself & friends taking in what the PIAE and Hawaii have to offer. Fun, sun, and lots of Aloha.
