25 Hair-Raising Zombie Geisha Tattoos

When it comes to the zombie apocalypse, not even geisha are spared.

Zombies are undead creatures, typically depicted as mindless, reanimated human corpses with a hunger for human flesh. Most commonly found in genre works of horror and fantasy, zombies have a complex literary heritage, dating centuries back, that has led to several zombie films in the 1980s and a resurgence of popularity in the 2000s. The term comes from Haitian folklore where a zombie is a dead body animated by magic. The Haitian zombie phenomenon first attracted widespread international attention during the United States occupation of Haiti (1915 - 1934). Modern depictions of zombies do not necessarily involve magic but invoke other methods such as a virus. The zombie apocalypse concept, in which the civilized world is brought low by a global zombie infestation, became a staple of modern popular art and culture. Due to a large number of zombie films and video games, the idea of a zombie apocalypse has entered the mainstream and there have been efforts by many fans to prepare for the hypothetical future zombie apocalypse.

Geisha, traditional high-class Japanese entertainers throughout history, have been wrapped in an air of mystery and intrigue. Geisha are traditional female Japanese artists; gei meaning art and sha meaning person who does or to be employed in. They had a wealth of knowledge about Japanese history and a vast historical wisdom but were most notably skilled at different Japanese arts; playing classical Japanese music, dancing and poetry. While Geisha today stand out as exotic and rare, their aesthetics were once very mainstream in Japanese society. In fact, before Western culture infiltrated their society, Geisha were considered the forerunners of high fashion; in white mask, black wigs, crimson red lips and vibrant kimonos. But once western culture began to take hold, especially after World War II, most other Japanese jumped on the bandwagon, modernizing their look and having to take factory jobs. Geisha, on the other hand, dug in their heels and held onto traditional culture. Chosen as a tattoo, the geisha is a symbol of divine beauty.

Leave it to western civilization to have captured this exotic creature and exposed her to the living dead. Here are 25 brilliant Zombie-Geisha tattoos:
