The very first phonograph was invented in 1877 by the great Thomas Edison and was later improved Alexandra Graham Bell's Volta Laboratory. In the 1890's inventor Emile Berliner developed the disc record and the gramophone as we know it was born. A groundbreaking machine for its time the gramophone brought music into the homes of thousands, or those that could afford one!
