Tattoo Artists You Really Should Get to Know: Dr. Woo
A Dr. Woo tattoo is the shit!
He tattoos at Shamrock Social Club, where the likes of the Sex Pistols and Tupac got their tattoos from. Dr. Woo got his apprenticeship from Mark Mahoney, owner of the studio he's tattooing at now. He's also one of the most in-demand, with an average of six months waiting period.
We can guess that the story behind Dr. Woo's name is from how his dad wanted him to be a doctor when he grew up but it's all too late because even at a young age, Bryan knew what he wanted to do then. He's been experimenting with ink since around the time he stopped taking violin lessons. So in his father's wishes' honour, he went by the name 'Dr. Woo'. But it says here that it was actually a client who first called him by the name.
A quality that customers love about Dr. Woo is that he tattoos just about almost anything. He knows himself well enough to put his own spin on them— which is why loyal customers find themselves coming back to get tattooed by him.
Recent from Tattoo Artists
Despite his notability, Dr. Woo sticks to his own principles and refused to give special treatment to the celebrities who got themselves their own Dr. Woo tattoo. This is what he has to say according to the New York Times: “Most of the time, when they tell you how much they need a tattoo covered for a shoot, it means they’re not that famous,” he said. “If they’re big enough, a tattoo’s not going to matter.”
Dr. Woo's style is what he likes to describe as geometric, fine line black and grey.
He's all about creating texture.
And not to mention, fine details.
Pointillism, rays and thin lines are very prominent in his works.
This wolf tattoo is one of his most famous works. It's been reblogged and shared so much in the internet already.
These are a couple of his geometric ones.
Since he tattoos a lot of arrow designs and tries to make each unique from the other, some of the people who got tattooed by Dr. Woo started calling them 'Woo arrows'.
This sternum steer tattoo is looking so fine.
He digresses from time to time, doing solid traditionals like these.
He's not afraid of some coloured ones, either!
And before we forget, here's a tattoo he did on Cara Delevingne!
