The 2015 Pagoda City Tattoo Fest
Hosted by hometown artists Joe Johns and Justin Weatherholtz, Pagoda City Tattoo Fest aims to be one of the most prestigious tattoo shows on the East Coast.
The Crowne Plaza, Wyomissing will be buzzing away August 7th - 9th, as friends, fans, and collectors line up for a chance to be tattooed by an elite roster set to accommodate some of the best artists in the world.
The vibe of Pagoda seems to be "quality over quantity". Fresh in it's second year, the convention hosts a pretty impressive line-up of top notch tattooers including Mike Rubendall, Tim Hendricks, Chris Nunez, Bob Tyrrell, and Mike Wilson - to name a few. The show has garnered much respect in the community, perhaps because of it's no bullshit approach to the caliber of talent they offer.
I linked up with Justin, a resident artist at Kings Avenue (NYC) and Co-Founder of the convention - to chat a bit about the festivities set to take place this Summer in Wyomissing.

What is the Pagoda City Tattoo Fest about? Bringing the best roster of Tattooers to the east coast.
... simple as that.
Your convention boasts the attendance of some of the worlds most reputable artists, That’s pretty impressive in it’s second year. How we’re you able to reach out to all of these tattooers from around the globe?
I've been in the industry for 15 years and have been fortunate enough to meet and even work along side many of the attending artists. So I just reached out to them. I think everyone is really excited to be a part of building this show. It's really fun and tight knit, the artists and attendees alike respond to that. It adds a great spirit to the weekend.
You are a resident tattooer at Kings Avenue Tattoo in NYC. Why bring the convention to Wyomissing instead of New York?
There's a few reasons - first off I'm from the Wyomissing /Reading Pa area and knew our venue would be a perfect location that can accommodate everything we'd want in a convention. It is also easily accessible from anywhere on the east coast.
On a personal note, I co-organize the show with Joe Johns, my mentor. Joe tattoos in the area and handles much of the local aspect of the show, we can work together that way
What does Pagoda offer that sets you guys apart from other conventions? We're a boutique show (70 booths/ 130 artists) that is about the camaraderie, and it focuses on the love of tattooing with no frills. It's filled with greats in the industry and the after party is second to none.
What part of the weekend are you most excited for?
The after party- we have the best set up for after everyone is done tattooing (or getting tattooed.) A huge outdoor cabana area with partial indoor pool connected- photo booth, music, even a mini ping pong tourney! Hanging out with everyone afterwards was awesome last year... So fun.
Will you be tattooing during the convention? I wish I could! Running the show and making sure everyone and everything is running smooth is first priority... I'd pity anyone that would have to be tattooed by me there!
The after parties will be held Friday & Saturday nights after the convention. For further info please visit the Pagoda City Tattoo Fest website, and give them a follow on Instagram @pagodacitytattoofest!
