15 Fearsome Bill The Butcher Tattoos!
In 2002 Martin Scorsese brought us an all star cast in his fictionalized historical epic 'Gangs of New York'. The film focuses on the mid-19th century gangs that thrived in the fledgling city of New York, though it was one character in particular that stole the show; Bill the Butcher!
The Butcher was portrayed by the legendary Daniel Day-Lewis and his dedication to the role was unwavering. Interestingly the character of the Butcher was largely influenced by the real life William Poole, a bare knuckle boxer and New York gang leader known to his associates as Bill the Butcher. Poole was killed in 1855 and died with his last words 'Good-bye boys; I die a true American'.
Day-Lewis' portrayal of the Butcher has become an iconic performance of a true movie villain and has gained quite a fan base, a number of whom have paid tribute to a stellar performance and memorable character with some fearsome Butcher ink!
