18 Quintessential Red Riding Hood Tattoos
Little Red Riding Hood or Red Riding Hood depending on your literary preference is a traditional European fairy tale telling the tale of a young girl in a red hooded cape and her dealings with a 'big bad wolf'. Like many traditional folk stories the tale of Red Riding Hood has gone through countless alterations and changes, depending on who is telling the tale, and as a result a variety of adaptions exist. The first was published by Charles Perrault in the 1600s under the title Le Petit Chaperon Rouge ('Little Red Riding Hood').
The story of Red Riding Hood most frequently follows the same basic structure; Little Red Riding Hood’s mother tells her to take some food to her ill Grandmother. On her journey Little Red Riding Hood makes her way though a deep wood and meets the wolf, telling him where she is going. The wolf goes ahead of her and eats her Grandmother before waiting for Little Red Riding Hood to come. Upon her arrival and after some brief questioning the wolf pounces at the young girl. Screaming she runs away. The tale ends with a woodcutter killing the wolf and rescuing the Grandmother.
Red Riding Hood tattoos use the bold imagery of the young girls cape and the fierce danger of the wolf to create a striking picture of innocence and evil. Of course some may take the wolf's side and choose to lessen the darker imagery of the tattoo, others choose to portray Red Riding Hood as strong and mature young women...but whatever the choice Red Riding Hood tattoos are a solid option for any fairy tale fan and all story lovers!
