The Semicolon Project: A Tattoo Trend With Meaning

The Semicolon Project: A Tattoo Trend With Meaning

Tattoo trends come and go, one day everyone is getting mustaches tattooed on their fingers and the next they are not.

Tattoo trends are usually a surge in popularity of a specific design that becomes the 'in' thing to do, if only for a short while. But a tattoo trend doing the rounds at the minute is a trend with an awesome message and great meaning.

In the past few days social media has been filled with images of small semicolon tattoos people are getting in recognition of mental health conditions. Non-profit mental health organisation The Semicolon Project has begun a project encouraging all who have experienced depression, anxiety or suicidal thoughts to draw a semicolon on their wrist, or another body part of their choosing, although some have gone further and got the semicolon tattooed!!

Project Semicolon says "A semicolon represents a sentence the author could have ended, but chose not to...That author is you and the sentence is your life" The project is a 'faith-based movement dedicated to presenting hope and love for those who are struggling with depression, suicide, addiction and self-injury."

Across social media people have shared their semicolon tattoos and have even shared their touching stories of their own experiences. The Semicolon Project tattoo trend is an awesome way of using tattoos to spread an equally awesome message! Will you get a semicolon tattoo?? If you're not ready to take the step with ink you could always grab a Biro and show your support with a homemade temporary design!!
