Gareth waited until his little girl's 17th operation to surprise her with his special new ink. The operation was for Briar's other condition, Goldenhar syndrome, a congenital birth defect which can affect the ears, nose, and mouth.
“At first I think Briar was quite shocked. She didn’t seem to know what to make of it,” the 40-year-old tells Birmingham Mail. “My wife, Leanne, told me that when I was asleep she came next to me and at one point looked to try and take the battery off my head,” he adds.
“When Leanne told me about the New Zealand guy on social media, I thought it was a great idea. It’s a show of solidarity that will give my little girl a morale boost. It seems to have done the trick,” he says. “She often talks about how she wished all the family had implants and she has toy replicas that she puts on her dolls,” Gareth shares with Birmingham Mail.
