Austin City Limits Festivalgoers Share Their Tattoo Stories

Tattoos and festivals have a great relationship.
1. festivals are an awesome place to see a variety of cool ink, and 2. festivals play a big part in the temporary tattoo scene, at almost any festival you'll see an army of people rocking the fashionable metallic temporary tattoos. Looking to learn more about festivalgoers tattoos The Daily Texan took to the Austin City Limits Music Festival and had these festivalgoers share their tattoo stories.
Temporary metallic tattoos are a common sight at most festivals!
Occupational therapist and festivalgoer Karl Easley's tattoo make look like any other lighthearted tattoo but the reason behind his Felix the the cat tattoo is actually incredibly meaningful.

“What happened was a guy said ‘Can I have your Walkman?’ and he took my Sony Walkman and turned it into a tattoo gun...We used cigarette ashes like we were in a prison or something, and then he drew a head of Felix the Cat. It looked like shit.”

Clean and sober for 10 years now Karl has the original tattoo covered last year by an improved design,  "I put a bag of tricks at my feet, and Felix was my dude.”

Festival lover Sarah Witt's tattoos showed the more aesthetic value of ink and rather than having a deep meaning they are more a tribute to what she loves most; Pirates of the Caribbean. Witt has a compass of two roses, an anchor with the number 13 and a some script reading “Now bring me that horizon.”
“I love Pirates of the Caribbean and nautical stuff,”
Police Dog trainer Derek Smith opened up about his tattoo and highlighted the popularity of religion in tattoos. Only nine months old Smith's tattoo is a bright and colorful Archangel Michael design.
“I got it right after I got home from deployment...I got confirmed Catholic when I was deployed in Africa, and Saint Michael was my patron saint.”

Aside from being a place to hear some awesome music a festival is a place great to see some equally awesome ink, and while you may never know the meaning behind the tattoo it could be as beautiful as the art itself. So the next time you're at a festival keep an eye out and see what tattoos are out there!!
