The process of creating a shrunken head begins with removing the skull from the head. The skin is removed by rubbing it down with charcoal ash. Embellishments such as beads and other kinds of adornments may be added.
An incision is made on the back of the neck and all the skin and flesh is removed from the cranium. Red seeds are placed underneath the eyelids and the eyelids are sewn shut.

Fat is extracted from the flesh of the head. The head is then stuffed with wood and/or other shapes to keep its form.
The flesh is boiled in water containing some herbs and then dried with sand & hot rocks while molding to retain its features.
