Frank X Walker's poem “Love Letta to de Worl'” is the center of a beautiful tattoo project that has spread across the globe!!
Artists Kurt Gohde and Kremena Todorova have used the work of Poet Laureate of Kentucky, Frank X Walker, for their project Love Letter To the World. Kurt and Kremena have taken Walker's poem “Love Letta to de Worl'.” and broke it down into a number of different phrases, creating 129 unique tattoo designs in the process.
Impressively the tattoos have now reached 10 states, 15 countries and 4 continents! This is truly a global tattoo project!!
"Love Letter To the World was born from our desire to create a global community by intertwining poetry, tattoos, design, photography, spoken word, storytelling, and music. To begin with, we asked Frank X Walker, an NAACP Image Award winner, to write a poem as a love letter to the world" -Kurt and Kremena
Love Letter To The World is a tattoo project anyone can get involved with, simply visit the website and find out how. The 129 tattoo designs are able to be translated into 9 different languages and are focused on bringing people together.
“The desire to feel connected is at the core of so many people’s lives - to be a part of something bigger than oneself, to share sentiments like pride and love with many others, to publicly state one’s desire to be a citizen of the world,” -Todorova
Interestingly this isn't the first tattoo project the artists have created. They previously created the Cincinnati Tattoo Project, where they used the poem "Seven Hills and A Queen to Name Them." to create similar designs with the focus of bringing people together and creating a large interactive tattoo project.
Love Letter To The World is an awesome art project that brings together two powerful mediums in poetry and tattoos. Kurt Gohde and Kremena Todorova have certainly shown how tattoos bring people together and can create a community with a shared love and bond in ink!
