Kuniyoshi tattoos are dedicated to this great master's influence on Japanese art.

Utagawa Kuniyoshi is one of the main characters when it comes to Japanese prints and paintings, the ukiyo-e. This famous artist (1798-1861) is still inspiring tattoo artists and tattoo lovers worldwide.

He is famous for his portraits of the 108 heroes of Suidoken. The heroes are often portrayed covered with irezumis as well as other Japanese traditional tattoos, celebrating an art that was still taboo in Japan at the time. But tattooing was also marked by his incredible sense of dramatic and dynamic composition, intricate designs and refinement.

Beside his badass heroes fighting monsters, Kuniyoshi is also famous for his gorgeous geishas and illustrations full of humor and tenderness, especially the ones with his favorite animal, the cat...
