Actor Leonardo DiCaprio works with talented makeup artists for his role in The Revenant. And yes - this makeup art looks pretty sick!
Famous for his excellent portrayals in films and infamous for being one of the good actors who so deserve an Oscar but definitely has not gotten one yet, Leonardo DiCaprio returns to the silver screen to leap back in time as Hugh Glass, a man left for dead by his fellow hunters in 1823 Montana and South Dakota.
This time, DiCaprio's acting isn't the only thing you should be tuning in for. The insane makeup art and the tedious process is what's up with The Revenant.
Here we see Leo with what looks like fresh scarifications all over his body. The makeup artists working on him had to make his wounds look realistic as possible so Leo would stay still for five hours every day of filming The Revenant to convince the audience he really got mauled near death by a grizzly bear.
Crushed almonds, sunflower, and linseed helped to give the appearance of scabs were among the materials needed to make the wounds as realistically gruesome as possible.
In addition to his makeup preparations, Leo had to lie in icy mud connected to blood lines as the staff tried to keep him warm in between takes and touch ups all throughout the shooting.
Leonardo DiCaprio isn't the only one nominated for the Oscars, the hair and makeup team was also nominated for the Make-up and Hairstyling category, earning The Revenant 12 nods this year.
For crying out loud, give the man an Oscar before he kills himself.
