Stan Wawrinka is one of the finest tennis players in the world, and his tattoo is a reflection of that!
Swiss tennis player Stanislas "Stan" Wawrinka is considered one of the best tennis players in the world. According to tennis legend John McEnroe Wawrinka has one of "the best one-handed backhand in the game"! With two Grand Slam singles titles in his career: the 2014 Australian Open and the 2015 French Open Wawrinka still has time to add more and will certainly use his tattoo as motivation.
Unlike many other sports tennis is still relatively tattoo free but Wawrinka is one exception, written on his inner left forearm are the words "Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try Again. Fail again. Fail better". The script comes from a Samuele Beckett quote which has deep meaning to Wawrinka, which he explained to The Guardian back in 2014;
“I only did the tattoo last year, but I first saw the quote a long time ago. It always stayed in my mind. It’s how I see life and tennis. The meaning of the quote doesn’t change no matter how well you do. There is always disappointment, heartache. You are losing almost every tournament. You need to just accept it and be positive because you are going to lose and fail. We’re not all Nadal or Djokovic, who can win most tournaments.”
Interestingly Wawrinka's grand slam victories have come since he got the tattoo! Perhaps the ink was the ultimate form of motivation and any more tattoos may provide similar results! The Swiss star also has his daughters name tattooed on his right arm.
Wawrinka's tattoos are reflections of his life both on and off the tennis court and show his loyalty to his most important endeavors.
