In 1891 Samuel O'Reilly found Thomas Edison's "Electric Pen"  and realised that he could modify the machine and thorugh that introduce ink onto the skin. 

Added to the list since then, were rotatory tattoo machines or coiled ones - and they can be called either "machine" or "iron". But what really matters is we are all here because of them! So why don't you show some love for these 10 tattoo machine designs?
