Kat Von D, famous tattoo artist turned makeup entrepreneur has taken to social media to very publicly call out equally tattooed makeup queen Jeffree Star on some pretty serious shit.
Von D posted a dated photo of Star to Instagram with a big, giant, red "banned" sign over his face- with a caption vaguely explaining her choice to "dissociate" herself from him. It read:
"After years of making excuses for, and rationalizing Jeffree's inappropriate behavior (including, promoting drug use, racism, and bullying) I can no longer hold my tongue after recent events. I know that over the years, many of you were introduced to Jeffree through me, and regardless if you chose to continue to follow him or not, I just would like to disassociate myself from him and his brand from this point on. I plan on posting a video explanation as to why I felt compelled to make such a statement. But for the time being, I simply want to apologize to anybody and everybody who has ever had to deal with any of his negativity. And yes, with a heavy heart, I will be pulling the shade "Jeffree" from my collection. Sending extra love to everyone out there. ❤️"
Yikes. And if that wasn't enough, the war has spread to Twitter AND Von D even later took to YouTube to further explain her reasons behind the (seemingly) sudden proclamation of de-friendship. The video is- for lack of a better term-where shit gets real.
The artists' 14 minute video goes into some pretty extensive detail regarding the inner workings of the two's long-lasting "friendship"- and essentially it's downfall. The core issue, however, actually involves the birth of Star's makeup line along with one of our favorite artists over here at Tattoodo, BJ Betts.
Von D explains that, being a good friend, she linked Star with Betts (who is famously a 'lettering genius') to help Star with a logo for his then-emerging makeup line. That's all fine and dandy- except for the fact that Von D is now presenting actual proof that Star essentially used Betts' talents, took his design, never paid him for his work, and has been blatantly dodging him since. Not cool.
Of course there are two sides to every story, but Kat Von D isn't leaving much room for discussion here. The proof is in the pudding, ya'll- and in that case, the pudding is photographic evidence presented by Von D on her phone in a YouTube video. What a time to be alive.
You can check out Kat Von D's video below to hear it all from the woman herself- but believe me, I don't think this feud is slowing down any time soon. Between Instagram, Twitter, YouTube and hundreds of thousands of die-hard fans for each party- I don't foresee this soon coming to an end. We'll try to keep up.
