The dachshund literally translates from German as the badger dog, although they're also referred to as wiener or sausage dogs. Despite their odd shape, dachshunds are a dog breed originally used for hunting purposes. They would flush out animals such as badgers, rabbits and prairie dogs for hunters.
Now kept as pets, dachshunds have been found to rank in the top ten most popular dog breeds in many cities across the US. They also make for a popular tattoo choice, with owners permanently honoring their furry friends. With their sweet, little faces it's not hard to see why!
