The story of Idexa Stern is quite impressive and inspiring, and so is her unique tattoo art. Moving from Germany to the U.S. in the 90's to pursue an intellectual process, Idexa Stern has studied with the iconic activist Angela Davis. Immersed in San Francisco's lesbian community, she discovered tattoo art and decided to learn the trade by herself. At that time, finding an apprenticeship was difficult for a woman. But this didn't scare Idexa at all and she soon created her own studio with a partner.
The shop was renowned for its diversity of clients and artists, welcoming people from many horizons but with the same passion for tattooing. Now, with more than 20 years of experience, her tattoo studio Black and Blue is part of the history of tattoo art. Linking the past with ethnic traditions and the future with contemporary experiment, the work of Idexa Stern is all about soul and freedom. Her art is geometric, often abstract, and deeper than ink - the goal is to change lives.
