The 'Only One Fucking New York City' Art Show

A kickass art show inspired by the Lower East Side’s music scene is going down this Friday at New York Hardcore Tattoo.

Founded by Vinnie Stigma of Agnostic Front and Jimmy Gestapo of Murphy’s Law, New York Hardcore Tattoo’s roots are in the city’s longstanding music scene. To honor the legendary musicians that are largely responsible for its existence, the shop teamed up with Generation Records to showcase artwork inspired by bands, songs, and album covers from the past. The show is aptly named the Only One Fucking New York City, and the party to kick it off should be a blast.

The event is slated to take place inside the shop, which is located at 127 Stanton Street, New York, NY, on this upcoming Friday, February 24th at 7pm, and it will feature work by over 30 visual artists, including tattooists from numerous local shops, like Daredevil, Flyrite, and several others. Some of the contributors are Diego V. Mannino, Stella Vlad, and Steven Huie, just to name a few.

New York Hardcore has already posted a few of the pieces that will be on display, and they all more than do justice to the music that inspired them. We’ve seen everything from portraits of lead singers to flash designs dedicated to underground and mainstream bands. So far every genre from hip hop to punk rock has been represented in the form of fine art. From the looks of the work that we’ve seen so far, the rest of the overall show should be pretty killer.

There will also be free beer, meatballs from the Meatball Shop, and DJ Uncle will be spinning records by the same bands that all of the art is based on. Eating and drinking on the house while listening to some good tunes and looking at art modeled on rock stars and rappers from the NYC scene. What more could you ask for?
