Planned Metrohood: A Day of Activism, Fundraising, Music, and Tattoos

Take a walk along Metropolitan Avenue in Williamsburg and support Planned Parenthood along the way!

Women's rights are under attack in this country in a way like we haven't seen for many years. The progress that was made by many is being reverted by few, and it is up to us to band together to support equal rights for all. The tattoo community is coming together to support Oven Fresh Media as they present Planned Metrohood, a day of activism, fundraising, and support.

This coming March 30, swing by an ATM and wander around Williamsburg with cash in hand so you can take in the sights, grab delicious food, snag a cool tattoo, watch some local music, and support Planned Parenthood while you do!

First, line up at Fleur Noire Tattoo to get yourself an empowering flash tattoo. Their talented artists have crafted original feminist flash sheets just for the event, with all funds raised going directly to Planned Parenthood. Please email fleurnoiretattoo@gmail.com to set up appointments with the artist and flash desired. Walk-ins welcome, but appointments are being strongly recommended. (Click here for a full glimpse of the flash sheets.)

From 4pm till closing time, Nighthawk Cinema is sending $1 from every drink sold at their Lo-Res bar to the cause. Feminist films (ooh la la!) will play throughout the day in honor of the hard work being done. You can also dedicate yourself to some hands-on activism while you drink — postcard writing stations, provided by Forward March NY (who organized the Women's March in NYC), will be set up at the bar for folks to contact their representatives.

But wait, there’s more! New York Distilling Company will be donating $2 from the sale of any Dorothy Parker/pink gin drinks at The Shanty to the cause. Sugarburg will be donating $1 from the sales of draught beers to Planned Parenthood. And Oslo Coffee will be donating 5% of the sales from all three of their locations to PPNYC.

This loaded Brooklyn lovefest will end at the Knitting Factory, with local bands Desert Sharks, Treads, Circles/Waves, Lady Bits, and B.R.A. Yeah, kids — that’s an entirely female line-up.

Click on over to Facebook to RSVP, although no RSVP is necessary as this event has become a total Williamsburg block party! Jot it down in your calendars, and get ready to make your voice heard with your ink and your drink.
