Every week, it seems like this administration is determined to defund Planned Parenthood — it was a key component of the House’s failed American Health Care Act; the Senate, with a tie-breaking vote from Vice President Mike Pence, voted to allow states to withhold federal family planning funds from the clinic; and newly confirmed Supreme Court justice Neil Gorsuch has repeatedly sided against reproductive rights and access to birth control.
The far right continuously attacks the clinic because it performs abortions, but Planned Parenthood provides many essential health services: STD testing, pap smears, cancer screenings, pre-natal care, contraceptives, and much, much more. Millions of Americans rely on the clinic for their healthcare, and every attack on Planned Parenthood just leaves them more vulnerable. Many tattoo shops around the city have already raised funds for the controversial women’s clinic, and this Saturday, April 8, everyone at Red Rocket Tattoo will be raising funds for the New York chapter of Planned Parenthood.
From 12pm-8pm, Red Rocket will be accepting walk-ins on a first come, first serve basis. There will be a wide array of pre-drawn designs for clients to choose from, and 100% of the proceeds will benefit PPNYC. Although Planned Parenthood itself has been flooded with donations the last few months, few are going specifically to local clinics. So unlike other fundraisers, this one will be directly affecting the local community. Tattoos will be available in a range of prices (starting at the $100 minimum), sizes, and subjects so that there’s something for everyone.
Even if you don’t want or need a tattoo at the moment, Red Rocket will be selling these awesome custom tote bags for $10 that will also benefit the women’s health center.
“[The tattoo industry] is full of uninsured artists who have to deal with blood on a day-to-day basis,” says Red Rocket’s very own Adam Guy Hays. Planned Parenthood is one of the few healthcare providers that will treat patients without insurance. “We support Planned Parenthood because they provide care for people no matter their background, appearance, or situation.”
It’s going to be an inspiring day bringing together the community to celebrate and support women and women’s health. Tattoodo will be on site covering the events of the day. Be sure to check back next week for a recap.
So head out to Red Rocket Tattoo on April 8th, from 12pm - 8pm to get tattooed while supporting a worthy cause in your community.
