Nestled right in the birthplace of modern tattooing in Downtown Manhattan lies First Class Tattoo — a newcomer to the neighborhood and another addition to New York’s rich tattoo community.
Boasting a lineup of nine resident artists and a revolving door of guest tattooers from all over the world, the First Class crew has made the most out of its first year and a half. Priding themselves on the ability to give the client exactly what they’re looking for, the diverse artists at First Class can deliver on almost any request — be that a fine-lined, geometric symbol or a pretty, free-flowing watercolor piece. You name it, and one of the artists has you covered.
The shop’s owner, Mikhail Anderson, began his career in 2008 and made it his mission to become proficient in a wide variety of tattoo styles. Now citing his specialities as color realism, trash polka, black and grey realism, portrait work, watercolor and abstract, it’s obvious that Anderson believes being a well-rounded artist is important. He also took this into close consideration when opening a shop of his own.
Inside the massive two-floor shop, beneath the chandeliers and incredible display of fine art, a group of stylistically diverse artists tattoo an equally diverse group of clients. With artists capable of working in smooth black and grey realism to illustrative, watercolor masterpieces, one thing is for sure — it’d be pretty difficult for someone to come in with an idea that the folks over at First Class wouldn’t be able to handle.
In our latest video, we spent the entire day at First Class Tattoo where we had the opportunity to watch many of the artists at work — from small walk-ins to continuations of large-scale pieces, the First Class crew let us film away as they worked tirelessly to create some truly beautiful, one of a kind tattoos. Take a look for yourself in the video above.
