KINK OUT: A Fetish Fundraiser For Sex Workers' Rights

This Sunday, KINK OUT commences in a celebration of community that helps raise emergency funds for sex workers in crisis.

In the wake of Federal laws that threw sex workers into a realm of unsafe and extremely life threatening conditions, SESTA, the Stop Enabling Sex Traffickers Act, and FOSTA, the Fight Online Sex Trafficking Act, have sparked an outpour of community events to stem the tide against oppression. While these hardships may seem to threaten the very fiber of our community, the beautiful thing is that the 1% often underestimates our power, our voices, and our ability to come together in the most productive and creative ways. In steps [K]INK OUT, A Fetish Fundraiser For Sex Workers' Rights.

[K]INK OUT has brought together an amazing group of tattooists, activists, sex workers, artists, and kinky folk, in hopes of raising emergency funds for the Lysistrata Mutual Care Collective, “A community run, online based sex worker mutual care collective and emergency fund to support marginalized sex workers in crisis”. Laws like SESTA and FOSTA, have destroyed sites that aid sex workers in creating safe venues for communication, weakening their ability to share information about dangerous clients and spaces, as well as deconstructing the internet mainframe for workers to advertise online. The toll is not only monetary; it’s physical and emotional. Resources for those affected have been seriously restricted, while violent crimes and issues of mental health continue to plague the community.

The crew behind [K]INK OUT has taken care to create an event that supports through education and community integration. They are connecting everyone together in a forum that promises to bring awareness and funds to those in need through an experiential and beneficial celebration of passion. While there will be plenty of prints and pins to pick up and enjoy, there will also be boot blacking, live Shibari, raffles for boudoir photo shoots and more. Monikka Velvet of Red Baron and Katie Vaughn of Three Kings, as well as others, will be tattooing live in the space and several tattooists have donated sessions including Tati Compton, Zac Scheinbaum, and Tea Leigh. Although tickets have sold out online, there will be $20 tickets available at the door.

Events like [K]INK OUT are important, especially to reinforce the continual direct actions that work against a patriarchal society that threatens the rights of LGBTQIA+ and sex workers. It brings members of the community together in a supportive environment that concentrates on providing a positive and open-minded experience full of enlightenment, compassion, and togetherness. It reminds those in power that we will not be silenced. We will not be erased.
