In some parts of the world, last night was the time to celebrate the oncoming Chinese Lunar New Year. Saying "Gong hei fat choy" in Cantonese or "Gong xi fa cai" in Mandarine directly translates to "wishing you great happiness and prosperity." and we couldn't have said it better. Although we suggest trying to catch the yearly Chinese New Year Parade in whatever part of the country you happen to be in, we also decided to celebrate by putting together a collection of awesome Chinese tattoos...whether by Chinese tattooists, or icons of Chinese mythology and design, we hope you enjoy these beautiful pieces.
The Chinese New Year is the most important holiday in China that traditionally celebrates all deities, big and small. It is also a time to honor ancestors. Beginning February 5th, 2019 is the Year of the Pig. Although many Westerners believe that being born in the Year of the Pig will make this year lucky for them..the opposite is actually true. It is called Běnmìngnián or 本命年. The last year of a 12 year cycle based on Chinese astrology. Apparently, a good way to ward off evil is to wear jade...you could even get a Chinese tattoo like these to help guide your year with strength!
With this collection of Chinese tattoos we brought together some of the greatest deities Chinese mythology has to offer. Protectors like Shi Shi and dragons, famous characters of strength like Sun Wukong, also known as the Monkey King, and even a Bixi, a dragon turtle, all make an appearance. These are some of the most highly regarded icons of Chinese legends...and anyone marked in ink with their likeness is sure to find health, wealth and happiness in years to come. We hope you enjoy not only this collection, but this Lunar New Year...which promises to hold some welcome surprises for all.
