After waiting for a winter that seemingly lasted even longer than The Long Night, Game of Thrones is finally returning for its seventh season. Before we jump back into all the drama and intrigue going on in Westeros, we wanted to take a look at some of our favorite houses from the series. Alongside each article we’ll be throwing up tattoos of the house’s sigil, some of them directly taken from the show, others just the same beautiful iconography. Be warned, SPOILERS FOLLOW, so if you haven’t caught up on the series you might want to go look at these Harry Potter tattoos instead. For the rest of you, let’s meet the Tyrells.
In what is one of the greatest understatements of all time, things are not looking great for House Tyrell. It was only a season or two ago that they were riding high — Margaery was queen, her father Mace was on the small council, and Loras was one of the most respected knights in all of the Seven Kingdoms. Then we came to season six and all shit hit the fan as Cersei Lannister took her jealousy to the next level. And when her plot to get rid of the Tyrells started to blow up in her face, Cersei went and blew up half the damn city.
Now there is only one Tyrell left — Olenna Tyrell, the most badass grandmother in Westeros and beyond. Played masterfully by Dame Diana Rigg, Olenna has consistently been one of the most entertaining characters on the show. With an acerbic wit, a tendency to speak her mind at all times, and obvious intelligence, Olenna is rivaled only by Tyrion and Littlefinger when it comes to characters using their minds instead of their swords to get ahead.
Last we saw Olenna she was in Dorne making an alliance with the Martells with vengeance on her mind, as basically the whole world is now on their way with Daenerys to wreak King’s Landing and the Lannisters. The most important thing about Olenna bringing House Tyrell to the Targaryen cause is that it virtually starves King’s Landing. All these years of war have ravaged the farmlands and it was food from Highgarden that kept the city from starving. Well, that food is gone. And looks like a siege is coming.
We have no idea what exactly is going to happen this season, but don’t sleep on Olenna Tyrell. Something tells us that she is going to be making some shit happen and that Cersei is going to be very, very sorry that she crossed the Queen of Thorns.
We hope you enjoyed these rose tattoos in honor of House Tyrell. While the house may not be Growing Strong as we speak, don’t count them out just yet. Join us tomorrow when we turn our attention to another one of the Great Houses of Westeros.
