A Fresh Take on Traditional Work From Griffen Gurzi

Griffen Gurzi makes traditional tattoos for all

To be completely honest, traditional work can be a bit intimidating for those who are not completely familiar with the style. It's an understandable concern, as the traditional is one of the most assertive styles in the industry in both subject matter and technique. If you fancy yourself a newcomer to traditional work, but find settling into the unknown territory of the style a bit daunting, look no further than Griffen Gurzi's work, and the seemingly unfamiliar will begin to feel a bit like home.

Working out of Torch Tattoo in Anaheim, California, Gurzi’s work is strikingly bold, if not shockingly so. Saturated with color and thick bold lines, Gurzi’s work is anything but subtle. Action packed depictions of animals, daggers, and the occasional scenery, Gurzi’s work is impeccably clean. In fact, even after hours of pouring over his work, there is never a time in which one would ever think to themselves, “Hm... he could have tightened just this one spot up a pinch,” simply because it’s impossible. Any tighter and the tattoo would begin inverting itself.

It is through these minor “updates” that Gurzi makes the traditional style more accessible to a wider audience. It took some time, but Gurzi has made me and countless others a believer.
