We will be the first to admit that we are a sucker for any artist that takes on Ludacris, Lily Munster, and Lucille Ball as subjects, just as we will forever be blown away by artists that didn’t start tattooing until a little later in their artistic career. Artist Sarah Janine has been making absolutely beautiful fine art for quite some time now, but has just recently made the jump to apprentice. Her mentor is none other than her significant other, Ry Tang. And while Janine has only made her mark on one person thus far, we’ve no doubt that with a little bit of guidance from her mentor, she’ll on her way to becoming a fully fledged tattoo artist, but in the meantime you can find us scouring her Instagram for beautiful portraits.
An eclectic mix of subjects is what any artists needs to keep things interesting, and boy does Janine have that part down pat. With everything from mermaids to Hannya masks to Ludacris (sorry, we just really can’t get over the Ludacris portrait), Janine’s work takes on incredibly bold and vibrant colors. Technically speaking, she’s covered all her bases. Tiny wisps of eyebrow hair, goofily crooked teeth, and a hauntingly fixed gaze are just some of the tiny details that make up her work. It’ll be interesting to see where the tattoo community takes her as an artist, as well as what style she gravitates towards. In a way, seeing Janine progress as an artist is sort of like seeing a kitten grow up. Who knows what type of personality it’ll take on as it grows, but that’s the beauty in it — the unknown.
What we can say though is that Janine is off to a great start, and with an artist like Tang as her mentor, we’ve no doubt that she’ll be racking up fans in no time.
