Doing It For The Paws: NYC Tattoo Shop Holds Benefit For Animals

Brooklyn tattoo studio Eight Of Swords to hold annual art show and silent auction benefiting Best Friends Animal Society

Here at Tattoodo, we love our pets.  They are the rocks that get us through our crazy lives as tattoo journalists.  It should come as no surprise that there are those in the tattoo community that care about animals as much as we do. This Friday, March 10th, from 6 to 11 pm, the wonderful people at Brooklyn tattoo parlor Eight Of Swords, located at 115 Grand, will host their annual art show and silent auction with this year’s proceeds going to benefit the Best Friends Animal Society.

The Best Friends Animal Society is a non-profit animal welfare organization which works nationwide with outreach programs with shelters, rescue groups and members to promote pet adoption, no-kill animal rescue, and spay-and-neuter practices.

Previous events hosted by Eight Of Swords have benefited the ASPCA and The Warrior’s Fund. It comes as no surprise that Eight Of Swords are such sweethearts when it comes to animal. “You walk into our shop, we have a nice comfy couch with a cat laying on it. We have a cat. You walk in and you just feel like you’re at home,” artist Zoe Bean says of the shop’s cat, Baby D.

The show will feature original works of art from over 100 tattoo artists, including  Jackie Dunn Smith, Matt Craven Evans, Juan Puente, Destroy Troy, Becca Genne Bacon, Justin Harris,Doug Hardy, Megan Massacre, Dave C. Wallin, Hillary Fisher-White, Jeremy Sutton, Justin Weatherholtz, John Reardon, Woodz, Drew Linden, Guy Ursitti, Lorena Morato, Nathan Evans, Anya Gladun, Amy Shapiro, Richard Harding, Tron, Sweety, Alice Carrier, Joseph Bryce, Steve Huie. The event poster features art by Christina Hock. Bidding on every piece of featured art starts at $40 with the bidding ending promptly at 10 pm.

Also on hand from 6-8 will be real live cutesy-wutesy cats and dogs in need of homes.  The event features an open bar to help you make the decision to give your new best friend a home.  If owning a pet full time is too much responsibility for you, a sign-up sheet for fostering animals in need will also be present.

The Eight Of Swords benefit art show and silent auction for the Best Friends Animal Society runs from 6 until 11 on Friday, March 10th, at 115 Grand St in Brooklyn.
