Alright, it’s time for a bit of tattoo trend forecasting for 2017. As we all know, 2016 was the year of micro-pet portraits, pressed flower pieces, and the tiny but meaningful “GRRL PWR” tattoos. Everywhere we looked — our downstairs neighbors, best friends, and even our bosses — were embracing the trend with open arms, and rightfully so. 2016 was unprecedented as far as threats to civil liberties were concerned. “GRRL PWR” was a unifying albeit simplistic way of signifying that you, too, were a part of the movement to protect women’s rights. If we had to make an educated guess for what 2017 would bring as far as popular tattoos go, we’d suppose there would be another pro-women’s rights related tattoo trend. And if we had to make a suggestion, we’d say Moira Ramone’s traditional ladies are pretty spot on.
While Ramone tattoos in the American traditional style, the ladies she creates are anything but. Punks, nurses, Carmen Miranda inspired ladies, and even Morticia Addams find their way into her work. With solid lines, vibrant colors and personality for days, Ramone’s ladies are bold in more ways that one. Creating distinct personalities for each of her girls, Ramone takes everything into account — costuming, hair, makeup — the amount of detail she creates is uncanny. And while we’re in love with all of her ladies, we’re particularly fond of her punk grrls. After all, punk at its most honest definition is disruption of the government and societal norms. What better way to inspire yourself everyday to keep fighting than having a lil fighter on your arm?
We’re in for a ride this year, and there’s no doubt that you’ll need a tiny bit of inspiration to light the way, but we can’t think of a better way to do that than with a lil babe by Moira Ramone.
