If great art, good people and delicious drinks are your thing, and you happen to be in NYC, we’ve got the perfect night planned for you.. One of our favorite shops — 8 of Swords Tattoo right in the heart of Williamsburg, Brooklyn — is playing home to resident artist Zoe Bean’s first solo fine art exhibition in over four years entitled “Keepsake.”
With an extensive background in both painting and photography, as well as a BFA and MFA under her belt, Bean’s work consistently demonstrates a knack for whimsical imagery and extreme sensitivity to detail. In an attempt to reflect feelings of nostalgia, “Keepsake” reinterprets everyday objects, oddities and personal memorabilia into her tiny signature illustrations made up of hundreds and hundreds of tiny dots.
An artist for life and tattooer since 2007, Bean’s aesthetic remains cohesive regardless of the medium she’s working in. You can always count on meticulous detail, interesting subject matter and painstaking dotwork. With over 70 tiny ink drawings featured in this exhibition, the cozy brick walls of 8 of Swords will be covered in everything from itty bitty pet portraits to images of historical figures.
The opening of “Keepsake” is on Friday, May 12th from 7-11pm at 8 Of Swords and the show will run through July 10th. If anybody knows how to throw an event, it’s our friends over at 8 of Swords — and with sponsors like Flying Dog Brewery and Sailor Jerry also on board, we have no doubt that it’ll be another night for the books.
