Body hair can be a blessing or a curse. It’s a real Goldilocks situation, and chances are you’re either going to end up with too much of it or not enough. There are those who handle the former situation in style with tattoos that make inventive use of body hair. And then there are folks in the other boat, just like I am.
Puberty is an exciting time in a young man’s life. Your voice gets deeper, you start noticing girls, and hair begins growing in places it didn’t grow before. Or at least that’s the line they sell you. I remember very clearly being 12 years old and finding hair growing on my toes and thinking, “Ah, puberty is here. Now to become a man.” Except there was one hitch – my toes were really the only part of my body that grew new hair in my early teenage years. The only exception would be a few wisps of armpit hair. It wasn’t until my early 20s that my second puberty began and I finally got slight traces of chest hair.
Body hair is wonderful thing, one of the greatest perks of being a mammal. And my whole life I’ve felt cheated out of it. There’s nothing quite like resting your head against a man’s hairy chest, or so I’ve been told, and I feel ashamed that I have never been able to provide another human being with this experience. Sure, I eventually got a little bit going on my chest and the ability to grow an acceptable beard, but to this day most of the girls I date have hairier armpits than I do.
It is with the utmost of envy that I present to you these images of tattoos that have fun with body hair – the kind of fun I’ve spent my whole life robbed of. Maybe someday I’ll hit a third puberty and finally fill out, but I stopped holding my breath years ago.
These tattoos sure get wacky and creative with the follicles of hair growing from their owner’s bodies. And honestly, they make me feel better about my own predicament. I think I’m happier where I am than with the other extreme of being a walking carpet. The say the grass is always greener on the other side, but I’m learning to live with my lack of a lawn.
