For today's collection of awesome tattoos we bring together music tattoos that will make your heart sing. From traditional to hyperrealist, these pieces show off some of our favorite musical idols. The human obsession with music has a history as old as time, and there is a reason for that: we just can't live without it! Expressing ourselves is a very important and fundamental human activity, and music is the perfect outlet for that. And although some people couldn't sing a note to save their lives, thankfully there are people out there who create music that touches our very soul. Just check out these music tattoos to see how deeply our favorite musicians reach us... David Bowie, Elton John, and Slash make up some of these pieces that truly show how the world over loves music and celebrates it in their own individual ways.
Although most people think it was Thomas Edison who recorded sound first, it was actually Édouard-Léon Scott de Martinville, a Frenchmen who invented the phonautograph, the earliest known sound recording device. This was done in 1860, but of course...music has a much older history than that. The first song ever written was Hurrian Hymn no.6 and was created by Syrians about 3400 years ago...but that just means it's the oldest one historians could find...as these music tattoos show, music is an integral part of our lives...and we continue to create as is part of our history.
In fact, if you were to sit down and listen to every song ever created some people say it would take around 600 years, but if you averaged all the 10 million songs at 3 minutes each it would take about 57 years...either way, could you really stand to listen to all the Polka in the world? Not us...but we're definitely down to check out some of the longest rock and roll jams. These heavy hitters include Jethro Tull's "Thick as a Brick" which is around 43 minutes long, or The Allman Brothers Band's "Mountain Jam" which is around 33 minutes. Perhaps after listening to some good music, checking out these music tattoos, you'll feel inspired yourself for some new ink!
