There are tons of excellent tattoo conventions coming up, but only a handful of them exclusively feature female artists. In an industry that’s largely male-dominated, it’s important that women be provided the opportunity to let their work shine without the boys trying to hog the spotlight, which is exactly what The Other Side of the Ink gathering does every year. Alongside a slew of awesome shows, contests, and visual art, this celebration of tattooing features only lady tattooists, and in doing so proves that the tattoo industry is as much of woman's game as a man’s.
The Other Side of the Ink event will take place this upcoming weekend, March 11-12, inside the beautiful Sheraton Roma, which is located at 100 Viale del Pattinaggio in Rome, Italy just about two miles away from famous landmarks such as the Colosseum and Vatican City. The convention is hosting over 150 world-class tattooists. Some of our favorite artists who will be attending include Federica “Zoza” Vanzoso, Jessica Aaron, and Debora Visco, just to name a few.
Alongside some of the most masterful female tattooists in the world, the convention also has a fantastic lineup of performances scheduled. There will be juggling by Japo, who is known for his impeccable balance and slight of hand. Several dance numbers can be expected, like a can-can by Les Jambettes, pole-dancing by Sophie Carys, and others. The strange Mister and Miss Bo will put on a freak show, too. Contests for the best body art in every genre will also be held nightly.
Several art exhibits will be on display at convention. Annachiara Felletti is unveiling her newest Art Nouveau paintings. Some bizarre sculpture by Pamela P., aka Ranya Art, is scheduled to be on view. A selection of Kri Van Sloun’s and Mandi Jo Stoll’s The Bathtub Project, a beautiful photography series that explores the theme of vulnerability through nude portraits and interviews, will also make its in-person debut.
So, if you’re around the city built on seven hills and want to support the ladies of the tattoo industry, then pick up a weekend-pass for the event. Tickets are only available at the door. If one of them catches your eye, see if she has an open spot.
