The Tattoodo Crew recently met Stefano Alcantara, an artists we really think you should get to know.
Stefano is a Peruvian-born artist based in New York. In his early tattooing years, things weren’t as easy as it is these days. Living in Peru at that time when a tattoo magazine is a rare commodity, Stefano had to rely on his own to pursue the art of tattooing.
Luckily, Stefano has a degree in graphic design to back him up, but his initial experiences mainly depended on the good ol’ method of practicing with friends. Artists who never had a proper apprenticeship and yet, turn out this way are quite the impressive bunch.
With hard work and passion, Stefano carved his own way to the top; threw his name out there and show the world what a tattoo artist from a country like Peru can offer. He’s come along way since then; from opening a shop in Lima, Peru which stayed in business to this day to opening solo shows in New York City, winning several awards on the way.
At first glance, one may notice the constant presence of dark and powerful imagery on Stefano's works. Black and grey is Stefano's domain. He works magic with Black and grey. That's not to say that he can't do colour for sh-t, no. He describes his style as realism which often has strong touches of surreal imagery.
