Tattoodo City Guides: Miami Beach, Florida, USA

The best dining, drink, art, and nightlife South Beach has to offer.

WELCOME to Tattoodo Travel Guides, where we take you through THE MOST MAGICAL experiences you can have in a city anywhere in the world.

NEXT STOP Miami Florida, a famed destination for celebrities, partiers, exhibitionists, the wealthy, the hood-rich and everyone in-between. Life's a beach by day, and a teeming nightlife mecca when the sun goes down.

It'd be pretty sacrilegious of us to begin our tour from anywhere other than a tattoo shop; and in a town with one on every corner, picking the right place is likely to get a little confusing. Fear not, we've got you covered.

Love Hate Social Club (Miami Ink) - Located right in the heart of South Beach on the corner of Washington & 14th street you'll find Love Hate Social Club Miami Ink, home to some of the most talented artists in the state. Though the demand is large, it's still relatively simple to get tattooed here. They accept walk-ins on a first come, first serve basis daily from 10am-10pm.

Ocho Placas - Javier Betancourt, John Vale and company are whipping up beautiful tattoos on the daily at their custom shop in West Miami. They accept walk-ins as well as appointments from 1-10pm.

About 20 minutes north of South Beach on the MacArthur Causeway will take you to arty little district, faintly reminiscent of Williamsburg, Brooklyn circa early 2000’s before all the suit-and-tie bros moved in. The neighborhood of Wynwood is itself an open-air art gallery, where every bar, restaurant, and retail store in visible sight is covered top to bottom in artwork commissioned from some of the best muralists in the world.  If you could give a shit about culture, that’s cool, it’s also just a rad spot for selfies.

In need of a caffeine pick me up? Got a coffee snob in your group? Get in line at Panther Coffee. It really is that good.

You’re on vacation. You want a nice meal. You’re only in town for a few days - let’s not waste time.

Pubbelly Sushi- We can’t say enough good things about Pubbelly. This Sunset Harbor sushi stop is churning out all the classics with an elevated twist. Bites not to be missed are the Original Rock Shrimp Tempura. Bigeye Tuna with Crispy Rice and Truffle oil. Tostones con Ceviche.  But really, they’ll have you at the Rock Shrimp.

27 - A 10-15 minute car ride will take you north of South Beach to 27 restaurant, located in a beautifully restored historic house adjacent to the trendy Freehand hotel. 27 is the perfect marriage of comfort and class, and the food absolutely divine. Crispy Pork Shoulder & Spicy Slaw are a must try for carnivorous types. Local Daily Catch, or Pulpo a la Huancaina for those of you jonesin’ for some seafood.  If everything seems unbelievably fresh, that’s likely because it’s just been picked from their garden outside.

In a town synonymous with nightlife, Miami is never short of clubs to go to if that's your kind of thing. Liv and Club Space are somewhat of a rite of passage on South Beach, and Bodega's hidden speakeasy is pretty fun (so long as you're willing to walk through an extended port-a-potty to get there) but please excuse us while we slip into a local dive in an effort to avoid all of that chaos.

The Broken Shaker - For a slightly lower-key Miami vibe, no need to look any further. The Broken Shaker is an open-air mixology bar nestled inside a small oasis of palm trees and patio lights within the Freehand hotel. Take your pick from the creative drink menu, or tell the bartender what your flavor preference is. They’re happy to concoct you something special.

Mac's Club Deuce- If you’ve watched any Anthony Bourdain episode in Miami, there’s no question as to why he always ends up at Mac’s Club Deuce. Miami’s oldest bar (Est. 1926) has far surpassed its “local dive” designation into an entity of it’s own. From 8am until whenever, the Deuce plays host to a diverse group of patrons from doctors to drug-addicts, PI’s to prostitutes, locals, tourists, many of whom, I think it is fair to say, are heavy drinkers. On South Beach, happy hour is religion; and at the Deuce they’re slingin’ 2 for 1’s all day long.  You will likely meet those types of people your mom warned you about. You will likely be abused by a foul-mouthed bartender. You will likely inhale more smoke than you thought possible. Love it or hate it, Mac’s is legendary.
