The 11th Tattoos for Community Event at Jack Brown’s Tattoo Revival

These big-hearted artists are churning out tattoos all weekend to raise money for Mental Health American’s teen suicide prevention program.

Jack Brown’s Tattoo Revival (JBTR) in Fredericksburg, VA has a decade-long track record of doing right by its surrounding community, and this year they’re at it again. On Memorial Day weekend, the shop will be holding its 11th annual Tattoos for Community event. They will be slinging out tattoos on a walk-in basis all day Saturday and Sunday, and 100% of the proceeds will be donated to Mental Health America of Fredericksburg (MHAF) to help support its teen suicide prevention program.

“In the past, we’ve worked with a number of Fredericksburg local non-profits,” says Kenny Brown, a tattooist at the shop and one of the event’s organizers. “One of our missions is to help support those who allow us to draw for a living by giving back to the community.”

Starting at noon on May 27th, the crew at JBTR will be tattooing on a first come, first served basis. In anticipation of a full-house, they’ve even invited several guest artists to help make sure everyone who wants a tattoo gets one. The shop is raffling off custom works of art, hosting a bake sale, and selling awesome t-shirts (designed by Brown himself).

As the city’s oldest non-profit, MHAF has been enriching the community for over 60 years by providing access to quality mental health treatment and services to those who can’t afford it. The organization’s teen suicide prevention program works with 9th graders throughout Spotsylvania and Stafford County, training them to recognize the signs of depression and encouraging them to reach out for help when they or one of their friends is in need.

“Over the last 11 years, we’ve raised over $120,000 for local non-profits. My guys go nuts when we do this sort of thing,” Brown explains. “We work hard, cranking out tattoos all day, and we have fun while we do it. It just feels good to contribute to a good cause.”
