Take out the Sharpie and get started on that sketch, Ael Lim will show you how it's done!
For the past nine years, Ael (also known as Aelvin Lim) has been making a name for himself in Singapore as a realism tattoo artist. He runs his own studio named Imagine Tattoo Studio (Enigami)- one of the most famous shops in the city. He first started tattooing in 2007 after sparking interest in the art when a friend showed him his new tattoo. Ael immediately sought an apprenticeship and luckily got one from Wang of Skin Design Tattoo.
Despite his country's lack of significant tattoo history, Ael does not let it stop him from contributing to Singapore's contemporary tattoo scene as a rising talent in the industry. In fact, he's considered as one of the top tattoo artists in the country. His works are valued for their realism and vibrant colors.
With an experience that extends to almost a decade, Ael has tried out different tattoo styles. In addition to color realism, he's also done black and grey, tribal, and Oriental styles. His artistic thirst led him to experiment with a tattoo style inspired by traditional mediums. The Singaporean tattoo artist is currently messing with the no-fuss marker, drawing up his tattoos in a rather shambolic yet evoking style.
Having graduated as an art student with a background in 3D arts, Ael continues to reinvent himself with all the mediums within reach, be it traditional or digital. The Singaporean tattooer is not one to back down from the challenge of taming a new technique or art medium.
“To me, art is about constant movement, never too defined and always elusive” –Ael Lim, London Tattoo Convention
