UFC Welterweight Champion Tyron Woodley is not someone you want to make angry. The fighting machine is one of the deadliest fighters on the UFC roster and has the power to knock you out with his fists, and out-grapple you with his superior wrestling ability. Competing in NCAA Division 1 Wrestling, he has a long and storied history with combat sports, which has led to his successful MMA career.
He also almost had a dustup with former UFC double champ, now single champ, Conor McGregor.
"I try to stay sophisticated ... "
Backstage at the UFC 205 event, Woodley and McGregor shared a moment that looked like it was about to lead to fisticuffs (which isn't unusual for the Irishman), but tempers cooled and the situation never escalated, but according to Woodley, it almost got ugly.
Woodley addressed the situation on his YouTube webseries, The Champ Life.
"I try not to take myself back to those dark areas, I try to stay sophisticated, stay professional but a few people can take you out of that element and bring that Ferguson back out of you and he almost did it. But I had to keep my eyes on the prize, defend my strap in a Fight of the Night performance at UFC 205. So if you want to get in there with a lion and get your head bit off and have me spewing your blood all over the Octagon while you've got that goofy tiger tattoo on your chest, looking like a clown with a clown on your chest, we can do it. We can do it in Ireland, Dublin, we can do it in the back of White Castle, I don't care. But just know, I ain't that guy."
You can see Woodley's entire take on the situation in this video starting at around 2:45. It's interesting to see what he thinks of the UFC Lightweight Champ and where he stands with him.
Will this lead to a more intense confrontation? Or will it lead to a fight in the Octagon? Only time will tell, but any fight involving Conor McGregor has big money involved with it. We'll just have to see if Mystic Mac has time to fight in between the birth of his first child and doing Game of Thrones cameos.
