Wayne’s World! Tattoos! Party Time! Excellent!

We’ve spent 25 years laughing our asses off at Wayne and Garth and some of us have gotten excellent tattoos in tribute

Wayne’s World is one of a handful of perfect films from the 1990s. The Saturday Night Live spin-off was a huge hit (unlike any other SNL film that isn’t the Blues Brothers) and Wayne and Garth became nothing short of symbols of the ‘90s. It’s high time we paid proper homage with some excellent Wayne’s World tattoos.

Wayne’s World was the creative brainchild of Mike Meyers, a young Canadian comedian. While many know that Wayne’s World first appeared as an SNL sketch in 1989, many do not realize that Meyers invented the character on Canadian television in the early ‘80s for the alternative music video show City Limits. By the time he got to SNL, the character was already very developed. But it was the addition of his sidekick Garth, played by Dana Carvey, that really cemented a winning formula.

The two starred in 19 Wayne’s World sketches on SNL between 1989 and 1994. It was a standout among the golden age of SNL. The popularity of the sketch made show-runner Lorne Michaels decide it was time for a movie. Meyers wrote the script to Wayne’s World with SNL staff writers (and future creators of That ‘70s Show) Bonnie and Terry Turner. The film was directed by Penelope Spheeris, an interesting choice considering her most known previous work had been The Decline of Western Civilization music documentaries and 1983’s Suburbia, one of the few films to ever get punk right.

These Wayne’s World tattoos are all fucking awesome, just as Wayne’s World remains to this day. Now that you’ve enjoyed them and this article, you’re left with but one choice as to what to do next – party on!
