It’s summertime, shove a stick in something and commence licking.

Summer’s here and there’s only one recourse from the heat — to suck and lick your way to refreshing coolness. So wet your lips, open wide, and get ready to slide a nice thick shaft of rejuvenating relief to the back of your throat. Close your eyes and think about how good it’s going to feel to fill your mouth with a delicious burst of summertime flavor as we take a look at some really cool popsicle tattoos.
We’ve all loved sucking on these icy poles since childhood, but how many of you knew that in Australia they’re actually called icy poles? There are plenty of names for these yummy treats the world over. “Popsicle,” which is the most commonly used name in the US, is actually an example of a genericized trademark, much like Kleenex, Thermos, and Dumpster. The proper name for this tasty frozen morsels is actually “ice pop,” though in different parts of the world they are also known as freezer pops, ice lollies, ice blocks, ice drops, freezies, and even chihiros.

The history of the ice pop dates back to 1923 when Frank Epperson of Oakland, California, was granted a patent for ice on a stick. That’s right, the idea of freezing something and putting a stick in it is trademarked intellectual property.

While ice pops are fun to eat, there’s so much more you can do with them. You can utilize them in pieces of art that speak volumes about the state of polluted water. Or, if you’re the Snapple corporation, you can nearly flood Manhattan with kiwi-flavored sludge when your attempt to create the world’s largest popsicle backfires spectacularly.

But the best use of a piece of frozen liquid with a stick in it is staying cool on hot summer days. But just take a look at these amazing popsicle tattoos that stay cool all year round.

Don’t these tattoos look good enough to lick? You bet they do. But why not opt for something a little less salty and get yourself an actual ice pop instead?
