If you watch WWE Smackdown Live, you are familiar with the dull commentary of one, Mr. David Otunga. The monotonous "color commentator" once showed great promise in the company as a member of The Nexus, and has all the physical tools to be a great Superstar, but now he is relegated to commentary.
One of the major reasons Otunga failed was because of his distinct lack of character. He's a milquetoast dude behind the microphone and in the ring.
I guess in an attempt to be less stodgy, Otunga traded in his clean-cut appearance and got some tattoos.
David Otunga before his tattoos.
Otunga has some pretty extensive tribal tattoos on his left arm now, and added a tribal-looking lion to the ink.
"Sometimes the lion has to roar," is how Otunga captioned a shot of the new tattoo on Instagram. It's just painful to see this happening. I like Otunga, he seems like a nice guy, but he's just so stale and uninteresting and this seems like a desperate ploy to add depth to his on-screen role.
Hopefully it works and he becomes a more dynamic presence on WWE, but I can't believe it to be true.
I'm going to keep watching WWE programming, despite my feelings toward David Otunga, but I really hope this new lion tattoo lights a fire under his ass and makes him more interesting. Otherwise, I'll just have to suffer through his inarguably bland commentary.
