Like ripples of water or wisps of smoke, Specimen's tattoos crawl across a canvas freely, emoting transience in physical form. In this interview, Specimen speaks on inspiration, a love for tattooing, and hopes for the future.
How did you get into tattooing? Did you always know you wanted to be a tattooer or did you have other plans in mind?
I have always wanted to be a tattoo artist, since I was very young I was already fascinated by this art. I spent a lot of time drawing.
How has your style evolved over time? What or who inspires you the most? Why do you think people resonate with your abstract, flowing designs?
Like all tattoo artists, I learned this profession by starting with tattoos that were quite simple to achieve. What I liked the most was the work of the lines. My great shyness prevented me from really expressing myself through the tattoos, painting helped me a lot.
What inspires you?
Emotions and nature inspire me a lot. Each person can interpret abstract forms in this way, a feeling, a wound, a life path, a movement.
What do you love about tattooing and what have been some of your favorite moments during your career?
I think that the tattoo world is constantly evolving, just like art in general. What I like about tattooing is that I can bring happiness to people through this art. It's very rewarding. I also love all the encounters with other tattoo artists, there's always so much to learn.
Beyond tattooing, what are you super passionate about? Any cool future plans that we should know about?
Beyond tattooing, I love nature, music, human encounters, travels, I need all that to create.
I wish to travel even more to discover other universes, other artists and to be able to exchange and learn with them.
