Bible Tattoos: Part I

Bible Tattoos: Part I

There’s a lot of tattoos out there and even more Christians, but there’s not a lot of Christian tattoos, at least not a lot of quality ones.
It took some time to compile a collection of Christian carvings, tattoos with deep meaning of course but also ones that were well done. I’ve even included some of my personal compilation. It’s such a cool thing to see a ‘bridge in the gap’ with genuine believers who are tattooed, it’s just not expected and the unexpected is always more interesting. Another awesome oddity is tattoo artists who are Christian.
To a lot of people Christian tattoos sounds like an oxymoron. It’s not often that God and tattoos are involved in the same conversation and if they are it probably has to do with the book of Leviticus. At first glance it appears that Christians and tattoos don’t mix which would be a valid argument, except that only using the verses in Leviticus chapter 19 is taking things out of context. Tattoos, no matter your belief system, are a personal decision. At the end of the day it’s just you and your tattoo. So if you have peace about getting a bible verse permanently put on then go ahead, if not, it’s perfectly okay to remain a blank canvas. Bringing up scripture is not meant to spark some ‘should or should not’ debate on tattoos, plenty God talk can be found on my blog. It just so happens that scripture is what the tattoos in this article are based on. See if this Jesus ink spark something in your heart.
Starting the tattoos of with a bang, or Bang Bang since that's where this crucifix was tattooed. Remarkable shading complete with INRI above Christ's head, meaning "King of the Jews" in Hebrew. The detail is crazy seriously, zoom in on this thing.
Scripture on the outer forearm, pristine work by Bang Bang.
"Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us"-Ephesians 3:20
Cross and bible verse on the back of the neck.
Yes, I am a girl and I do have tattoos. Wanna see?

"But she said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in your weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses so that Christ's power may rest on me."-2 Corinthians 12:9
Pretty much the perfect spot for this tattoo based on 2 Corinthians 5:7. Foot tattoos are no joke so I'm sure the experience was a solid reminder to keep the faith.
Bold, direct, and to the point.
The Christian fish and the the cross are two of the most ancient symbols representing faith in Jesus.
Please tell us the master behind this masterpiece double portrait of Christ crucified among the crosses on Mt. Golgatha.
Great finger tattoos. Love the style. What a world it would be if we humbly prayed this way a little more often.
Girls rock tattoos, even a big tattoo on the back. Trust His plan, easier said then done but it can be done. Maybe a tattoo like hers would be a good reminder.
"Jesus replied; "you do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand."-John 13:7
The back of the arm is fitting for this design. XP is Christ in Greek and the symbols on either side are also Greek for Alpha and Omega. In total the composition reads; "Christ, Alpha and Omega, beginning and the end."
Whimsically styled B&G sparrow and script. A different design referencing Psalm 139:4.
"I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made: Your works are wonderful, I know that full well."-Psalm 139:4
Inner forearm, love how the script looks handwritten and elegant. A tribute to Philippians 1:6.
"He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion, until the day of Christ."-Philippians 1:6
Heavy black works well in this portrait. It's always refreshing to see a skillful rendition of Jesus.
Athlete David Beckham celebrating his tattoo of Jesus on the ribs.
The Christian fish was once a symbol used to mark places where believers could meet in secret because doing so was illegal ><> Thankfully we now have freedom of worship and religion, so this tattooed cowboy can show it off as long as he likes.
It doesn't get much more sentimental than a tattoo in the handwriting of a loved one.
Quirky spot for a quote, the small font sort of makes it work. They're lyrics that allude to a bible verse.
"For He chose us in Him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in His site. In love"-Ephesians 1:4
Amen. Great spot, great font. Hand tattoos are tricky but if cared for correctly this one might last.
"In love I was created and in love is how I hope to die." Same quote different spot.
Although the writer is me is bothered by the lower case 'i' it makes a nice thigh tattoo.

Anyone else bugged by the grammar? These tattoos are for you.
Script and sparrows placed right over the heart.
How blessed we are might not be the first thought looking at that last photo, the chiseled abs and smoldering eyes are a bit distracting.

It's important to remember why we shouldn't judge: "Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you. "Why do you look at the speck that is in your brothers eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?  Or how can you say to your brother, 'let me take the speck out of your eye,' and behold, the log is in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye."-Matthew 7:1-5
bible meme
David wrote the book of Psalms in the bible which is where this collarbone tattoo came from.
"Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil, You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me."-Psalm 23 verse 4
Use of negative space nicely done. The intricate black and gray border has just enough detail to appease the eye.
Striking font on the ribs that helps keep life in perspective.
" was then that I carried you." The texture and depth in the sand, the ocean foam, well executed realism tattoo based on the poem Footprints, placed on the foot-how appropriate.
Another more discreet walk by faith script tattoo on the foot.
"For we live by faith, not by sight."-2 Corinthians 5:7
It doesn't have to be big to be powerful.
"He says, "Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth."-Psalm 46:10
Lots of meaning in these four little finger tattoos. He came. He died. He rose. He's coming back.
My outer forearm script tattooed by Ivan at The Basement Ink. It's a scriptural tribute to my late Service Dog.
"His master replied, "Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!"-Matthew 25:21
